Titanium implant coating and their effect on osseointegration

Abstract

In the case of tooth loss ideally it is replaced with a dental implant, because dental impants have several advantages such as restoring the function of mastication, increasing mobility and reducing pain. Nowadays after tooth extraction, dental implants are often implanted immediately, with the consideration of preventing mechanical loading, thus obtaining the stability needed for osseointergation of the implant. Titanium (Ti) implants are the most commonly used materials because they have good mechanical properties, biocompability, stable chemical, low toxicity, bioactivity and corrosion resistance. Various implant surface modification materials were carried out to improve implant integration, including hydroxyapatite (HA), antibacterial and BMP-2. These coatings to improve osseointegration and avoid implant infection, thus increasing the success rate of the implant.
