N2 - Thyroid dysfunction is an abnormality on thyroid gland that influences lipid metabolism and possibly has a role in lipid-related disease pathophysiology. This study evaluates the value of lipid profile on patients with hyperthyroid and hypothyroid. A cross-sectional study was conducted from January to February 2019. Lipid profile data from medical records were obtained and analyzed using statistical test. Most subjects with hyperthyroid or hypothyroid were females and at productive age. Hypothyroid had the highest mean value of triglyceride (260.18±39.39) and total cholesterol (31.09±26.95). Statistically, significant mean differences among three groups were only found in LDL-C (p <0.001), triglyceride (p <0.001), total cholesterol (p <0.001), and fT4 (p <0.001). On correlation test, we found that LDL-C, triglyceride, and total cholesterol were significantly correlated and had strong positive correlation (CC >0.400) with TSHs and strong negative correlation (CC <0.400) with fT4. Thyroid dysfunction is associated with lipid profile changes. Hyperthyroid causes decrease LDL-C, triglyceride, and total cholesterol levels, while hypothyroid causes an increase in LDL-C, triglyceride, and total cholesterol levels.
