Abstract

Thisstudywasconductedtoinvestigatetheeffect of the Swietenia macrophylla nanoparticles in protecting pulmonary damage on a diabetic rat. Rats were given Swietenia macrophylla nanoparticles 100 mg, 200 mg, and 400 mg/kg BW orally once in a day for 40 days, and on 3rd day were given Streptozotocin 60 mg/kg BW a single dose intraperitoneally, one hour after Swietenia macrophylla nanoparticles administration. Swietenia macrophylla nanoparticles significantly decreased both blood glucose and Malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, increased plasma insulin and protected pulmonary cell damage on streptozotocin induced-diabetic rat. Swietenia macrophylla nanoparticles have a potent antioxidant and anti-diabetic effect which can provide a protection on pulmonary damage in diabetic rat.
