N2 - – Teeth extraction is a common practice in the field of dentistry. Teeth loss can cause negative effects for the patient in the form of a reduction in alveolar bone dimentions. To overcome these problems, the clinician can use alveolar bone grafting procedures to stimulate wound healing and stabilize the dimensions of the alveolar bone. Freeze-dried bovine bone xenograft (FDBBX) is a graft derived from bovine bones, and processed by means of freeze drying or also called lyophilization. Implantation of bone graft at the alveolar bone defect will trigger the body’s immune response. However, excessive/prolonged inflammation can cause resorption of the graft. Interleukin-1(IL-1) is a cytokine which is released rapidly after trauma or infection and is one of the most abundant mediators in inflamed tissue. Human peripheral blood mononulear cells (hPBMCs) is a critical component of the immun system which release IL-1. This study aims to evaluate FDBBX effect on the secretion of IL-1 in hPBMCs culture. The sample hPBMCs was divided into two groups, a control group and a treatment group in which the culture was induced by FDBBX-conditioned medium 2,5% dilution. In both groups IL-I secretion of the hPBMCs afterthree, five, and seven days were evaluated. Replication of each sample group consisted of five samples. ELISA is used to measure the secretion of IL-I. The amount of IL-I secretion in hPBMCs cultures in control group and treatment group on the 3 rd , 5 th , and 7 th day are not significantly different. FDBBX does not induce nonphysiologic secretion of IL-1 which means it is biocompatible in vitro.
