Abstract

Koi fish is one of the ornamental fish that is in demand by ornamental fish lovers. Color quality is a determining factor for the economic value of koi fish production. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of adding squid ink supplements to feed on increasing black color and growth in koi fish. This study used a completely randomized design with 4 different doses of treatment with 3 replications. Treatment P0 without the addition of squid ink (control), P1 was 1% squid ink, P2 was 3% squid ink and P3 was 5% squid ink in the feed. Koi fish are kept in an aquarium with feeding rate of 5%. The main parameters observed were increasing black color and absolute growth of koi fish. The black color assessment was observed using a modified Toca Color Finder. Supporting parameters were water quality. The results showed that 5% squid ink treatment resulted in the highest black color score. The absolute weight growth between treatments showed a significant difference (p<0.05) and the absolute length growth did not show a significant difference (p>0.05). It can be concluded that the addition of squid ink with a concentration of 5% is the best treatment.
