The effect of picture and drawing method on knowledge and attitude about smoking prevention in adolescents

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

The case of smoking in adolescents is still relatively high, where the cause is partly due to a lack of knowledge and attitudes of adolescents about smoking prevention. This research was a pre-experimental study with one group pre-post test design. Samples were taken by purposive sampling technique (n=85 respondents). The independent variable in this study was the picture and drawing method, and the dependent variables were knowledge and attitude. Data were collected by pre-test and post-test questionnaires related to understanding and beliefs about smoking prevention and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with a significance level of α<0.05. The results showed that the picture and drawing method affected knowledge (p=0.000) and attitude (p=0.000) about smoking prevention, which is analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The picture and drawing method can increase knowledge and attitudes about smoking prevention because the image media used to improve the attractiveness, motivation, and enthusiasm of adolescents in following the learning process. Therefore, the picture and drawing method can be a choice for health education by increasing knowledge and attitudes.
