The Comparison of Anthropometry in Early Adolescent Based on the Status of Economic and the Mother’s Occupation in Indonesia

Abstract

The high economic needs in developing country because woman has the double role as breadwinner and as a mother in guarding the growth and development of the children at home. Mother's occupation status and economic status can cause the developmental disorder in children, especially in early adolescent. This study aims to analyze the difference in early adolescent growth and development based on the difference in status of socioeconomic and mother’s occupation. This study used cross sectional technique. The sample in this study was children aged of 12 to 13 years old as many as 100 children whose mother as worker and 100 children whose mother as housewife. The variable which examined included anthropometric measurement of body height, body weight, chest circumference, arm circumference, abdominal circumference, hip circumference, and fat thickness (biceps, triceps, subscapula, abdominal, suprailiaca). The data analysis technique used in this study was comparative statistics with t-test analysis. The result of the study showed the similarity of early adolescent growth and development based on the mother’s occupational status and socioeconomic status. Significant difference was found in the size of the abdominal circumference of male adolescent, while in all the body size in female adolescent did not have significant difference.
