Abstract
The modernization of agriculture does not always have a positive effect on a farming community, especially on those farmers classed as poor. The social structure established in the farming districts of three localities studied in Java imposes strong pressures on poor farmers who have little or no land. The introduction of agricultural technology into the villages depresses them while it further enriches the rich farmers. Unless the problem is tackled promptly it may lead to serious resentment in rural areas.-from WAERSA
