Abstract

Introduction: The World Health Organization states that hypertension is the cause of more than 10 million deaths every year. Prevention of hypertension needs to be done from an early age because hypertension sufferers can start in adolescence. Objective: The aim of this research is to determine the effect of efforts to prevent hypertension through the GEMAS GASI (Healthy Youth Movement to Prevent Hypertension) program on increasing knowledge related to hypertension in high school age children. Method: This type of research is a quantitative approach using the Paired Simple T-Test. The research design uses One Group Pretest and Posttest. The targets of this research were Al-Hikmah Surabaya High School students aged 16-17 years. Result: There is an increase in students' knowledge before and after the program which is indicated by a p-value of 0.000. As many as 64.3% of students had increased knowledge, and the remaining 35.7% of students had unchanged knowledge after the program. The program succeeded in increasing students' knowledge by more than 50%. Conclusion: The results of this research show that the GEMAS GASI program has increased students' knowledge regarding efforts to prevent hypertension..
