Abstract
Nursing graduates must be stated as competent on National Nursing Competency Examination (UKNI) to be able to practice as a nurse. The number of graduates who failed at UKNI on their first attempt remains high, yet only a few studies examine this issue. This study aimed to understand the predictor of UKNI success based on sociodemographic and academic factors. This study was secondary research using retrospective correlation design. A total of 547 graduates of Faculty of Nursing Universitas Airlangga who sat for UKNI in 2016–2019 as the first-taker participant were selected. Data was collected using data documentation from the UKNI’s website and the Academic Affairs Unit of Faculty of Nursing Universitas Airlangga. Chi-Square and Logistic Regression were performed by IBM SPSS Statistic version 25 to analyze the predictor of UKNI success. Sociodemographic factor found to be unrelated to UKNI success. Meanwhile, academic factor, that was Academic GPA, was statistically significant with UKNI success. Academic GPA remains as the most dominant factor in UKNI success. Interventions, such as practicing and mentoring program, and students’ high motivation, could enhance students’ academic performance to reduce the probability of failing the UKNI.
