Abstract

Detection of liquid level based on intensity-modulated have succesfully done by using U-bent SMS fiber structure. The mechanism uses hydrostatic pressure on a membrane located at the bottom of water tank to deform U-bent SMS fiber structure ellastically. The deformation results changes in power transmission on U-bent SMS fiber structure. The liquid level detection has done in filling and emptying process. The performance of sensor range, linear region, and resolution for filling and emptying process are 4-60 cm, 4-35 cm, and 0.8 cm respectively. Moreover, this sensor capable of detecting water level for filling and emptying process as sensitive as 0.008 dBm/cm and 0.009 dBm/cm respectively.
