Abstract
Introduction: Dementia is often considered a disease that often occurs in the elderly, so that the symptoms that appear are often undetected, while symptoms can be felt at a young age (early onset of dementia), so that in the pre-elderly stage, prevention is not carried out. Objective:. This study aims to identify the factors associated with the incidence of dementia. Methods: This research is a literature study research. Literatures are sourced from 3 journal databases: PubMed, Wiley Online Library, and Google Scholar that can be accessed openly. The literature obtained was selected according to the specified criteria such as full-text articles, published from 2017 to 2022, articles using English and Indonesian, research focused on the incidence of dementia, and not literature study articles. Results: The search resulted 12 articles for review. The result of this study is that host and environmental factors are associated with the incidence of dementia. Research on factors related to the incidence of dementia found host factors including age, gender, race and ethnicity, attitudes, education, income, health conditions, and marital status, as well as environmental factors, namely, place of residence, health services, social support, interaction social, and information sources. Conclusion: Factors related to the incidence of dementia were found in all literature, namely age, gender, race and ethnicity, education, attitudes, health conditions, income, marital status, place of residence, health services, social support, social interactions, and sources of information. Most of the factors correlate with the incidence of dementia.
