Microbial diversity with industrial potential from mangrove ecosystem in Indonesia has not been fully explored. The aim of this study was to explore proteolytic bacteria from soil samples of Mangrove Center Tuban East Java. Microbes with proteolytic activity potential were isolated from soil samples. The proteolytic activity of the isolates was assessed using spot inoculation method on Bushnell Hass agar media supplemented by 2% skim milk. Bacteria isolates which showed proteolytic activities were characterized by the presence of a halo zone around the colony which was used for measuring the hydrolysis index. The results of isolation obtained 18 isolates that had proteolytic activity. There were three isolates that had high proteolytic index; those isolates were LI.1.17 with index of proteolytic 4.01; LI.3.19a with index of 3.56 and LI.3.20 with index of 3.42. Isolate with code LI.1.17 showing highest proteolytic activity was identified as the genus of Bacillus.
