Abstract

Battery energy storage can reduce microgrid system cost due to its characteristic. It can move excess power generation from off-peak to the on-peak load. From that condition, Battery charge-discharge characteristic can make the owner to get profit by giving a different charge-discharge cost. Besides, the system losses can be a disadvantage to microgrid and battery owner. This research paper carries out calculations to optimize the generation of microgrid systems consisting of Wind Turbine (WT), Photovoltaic (PV), Diesel Generator (DG), Microturbine (MT) and Battery Energy Storage (BES). The microgrid system will be connected to the utility grid which is assumed to be an unlimited source of electrical energy. BES on this system will function as a generator once discharging and load when charging. This paper discusses the price of BES charging and discharging conditions. Different BES prices of charging and discharging conditions are considered to get the effect on the battery and microgrid owner. Giving a little higher price to the discharging condition can make a profit to the battery owner. This paper also considered the price due to line losses. In an electricity trading, losses can make the owner miss their profit. One way to overcome that issue, this paper will minimize the losses price. Dynamic Direct Current Optimal Power Flow (DDCOPF) and Mixed-Integer Quadratic Programming (MIQP) are used to complete calculations in this system to get the total power generation with minimal costs.
