Abstract

A simple and rapid densitometric method has been developed for determination of p-aminobenzoic acid and β-D-glucose-1-p- aminobenzoate in plant cell-suspension cultures. After diluting the medium or extraction of the biomass with methanol, the samples were spotted on to precoated silica gel plates which were then eluted with ethyl acetate-methanol-water, 77 + 13 + 10 (v/v). Quantitative evaluation was performed by measuring the absorbance-reflectance of the analyte spots at λ = 272 nm. The densitometric method is selective, precise, and accurate and so can be used for routine analysis of the plant-cell cultures.
