Abstract

Cancer is a disease with uncontrolled cell growth. Various herbal plants have been widely reported to have anticancer activity. One of them under consideration belongs to the Zingiberaceae botanical family and has historically been extensively employed in herbal medicine. This research identifies a herbal formula from a combination of Zingiberaceae family extracts as a chemopreventive for breast cancer. Benzo[α]pyrene-induced female Mus musculus Balb/c was given a variety of Zingiberaceae family extracts, which included Zingiber officinale Roscoe, Curcuma longa L., and Boesenbergia rotunda (L.), to raise the levels of SOD, GSH, and CAT. Apart from that, it also reduces TNF-α levels to near normal and prevents damage to breast tissue. Group C1 showed dilatation and hyperplasia of the ductuli, whereas group Z5 did not show any histological changes in the ductuli. The combination of Zingiberaceae family extracts can inhibit the occurrence of breast cancer.
