Abstract
Introduction: The implementation of community-based waste management can be done through waste bank. Waste bank in every household can minimize the generation of waste and the effects of waste bank on human life. Data in SIPSN shows there are 639 Bank Sampah Unit (BSU) in Surabaya City, one is called Bank Sampah Rukmi. Objective: This research aims to analyze waste management community-based through waste bank as an effort to improve environment health. Method: This research uses the analytical-qualitative descriptive method. This research is followed by semi-structured interviews with the environmental cadre, the organizers of The Rukmi Waste Bank, and the head of the Rukmi Waste Bank. Result: The communities sorted waste in their home and collected it at Rukmi Waste Bank. The collected waste will deliver to Bank Sampah Induk (BSI) Surabaya every month. Besides sorting and collecting, Rukmi Waste Bank also reusing and recycling waste. The reused waste is used oil, plastic cups, and plastic bottles for a plant pot. Recycled waste is a compost and eco enzyme from organic waste, also scented candles from waste oil. The activity results in Rukmi Waste Bank can increase the income of customers, making the environment and community healthier. Conclusion: Waste management activities at Rukmi Waste Bank are sorting, collecting, reducing, and reusing. Rukmi Waste Bank’s activities are advantageous in terms of socioeconomic, environmental, and public health.
