Abstract
Introduction: The peer educator program in various schools in the city of Surabaya has become an innovation program to increase acceptance and involvement of adolescents in dealing with peer problems, especially drug abuse problems. Objectives: To find out what factors are supporting and inhibiting peer educators in implementing the peer educator program. Methods: The research location is in the high school area of Surabaya which consists of 8 public schools and 2 private schools. The number of informants in this study were 48 peer educators. The location selection was based on the fact that some of these schools already had peer educators. Data mining was carried out through In-depth Interview, Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and observation. Data analysis used a descriptive study with data reduction procedures, data presentation and conclusion drawing. Results: The results from interviews, FGDs, and observations made by researchers to the school stated that the peer educator in carryi ng out its role was still minimal in support of both schools and the government which in the end became an obstacle for the peer educator. Conclusion: The inhibiting factor felt by students as peer educators was because the support in the form of facilities from the school had not been effective, and also the government which used to oversee this program no longer provided feedback so that it became the main factor in inhibiting the role of students as peer educators.
