The results show that basic conditioning factors and knowledge influence the self-care agency (SCA) of DM patients. The structure of the SCA model in diabetic patients shows that they can control themselves and that self-care is influenced by basic factors such as age, support, health facilities, lifestyle, and a decrease in HbA1c level [45]. This finding is similar to previous studies [ 45–47]. External support is obtained from the health workers such as doctors and nurses. This is very helpful for the participants in terms of conducting self-care properly [46]. The availability of health facilities within a reasonable distance, such as hospitals and public health care being easy to reach, will increase the level of SCA related to performing self-care and diabetes management properly [47]. A good understanding of diabetes management involves HbA1c regulation and adequate blood glucose [48]. Health education related to the use of drugs should be done regularly [49] while physical activity can reduce the rate of depression when undergoing self-care in addition to preventing vascular complications and helping to change behavior [50].The researchers would like to thank all of the participants who took part in this study and the Ministry of Research and Technology/National Research and Innovation Agency (Kementerian Riset dan Teknologi/Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional, Indonesia)

N2 - Background and aims: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients often experience unregulated blood glucose due to the lack of resilience. The aim of this study was to explore diabetes resilience among adults with regulated T2DM. Methods: This study used a qualitative case study design. A total of 15 participants with T2DM were recruited through snowball sampling. The study was conducted in four Health Primary Centers in Surabaya, Indonesia. The indicators of diabetes resilience were proper management of diet, activity, stress, and drugs. Interview guidelines were used to collect the data through in-depth interviews. The data were subjected to thematic analysis. Results: In this study, the results identified four themes, namely, resilient, support, benefits, and self-care agency. These themes were found among the participants with a resilient condition and regulated blood glucose. Conclusions: Resilient, support, benefits, and self-care agency are the themes for achieving diabetes resilience by adults with T2DM. Policymakers and health workers need to consider health interventions for increasing the resilience of T2DM patients so that they can achieve a better glycemic control condition, and manage their diet, medication, activity and stress properly.
