Key findings

The study highlights Indonesia’s growing engagement in international economic cooperation, with diplomatic missions playing an increasingly strategic role in promoting trade, investment, and economic partnerships. Several embassies have successfully aligned their economic diplomacy with national priorities, leveraging local networks and targeted promotion. The findings emphasize the importance of building institutional capacity, improving inter-agency coordination, and equipping diplomats with stronger economic and sectoral skills. Moving forward, a more structured economic diplomacy roadmap, supported by training, data systems, and performance monitoring, will enhance Indonesia’s global economic positioning and ensure greater impact from its external engagements. To strengthen outcomes, the study recommends developing a structured economic diplomacy roadmap, enhancing sector-specific training for diplomats, deploying digital trade intelligence tools, and improving inter-ministerial alignment. These steps will help optimize Indonesia’s strategic presence in global economic arenas.
