Research interests

IGAK Satrya Wibawa received his PhD from Curtin University Western Australia with a dissertation exploring the diverse forms through which Indonesian cinema has portrayed child characters. He is also a lecturer at the Communication Department in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya. He has awarded a grant from Erasmus Mundus program for staff exchange to Warsaw university in Poland. In 2011, the State department of the USA had granted him an academic trip to US film-industry under IVLP (International Visitor Leadership Program).

 

He is a founder for Independen film Surabaya and actively engage with arts activities in East Java. He as a wide academics and practical networking within visual creative arts community as well as journalism. He was actively involved in Aliansi Jurnalis Independen by supporting research program and now active as teaching team for Digital Public relations program for Government Transformation Academy under the Ministry of Communications and Information.

 

He is now the head of the Center for Creative Industries at the Graduate School Universitas Airlangga, while establishing a new program in 2022 for magister for human resources development focusing in creative industries. His research interest now focuses on the intersection between trauma-memory studies, digital media, cinema, and the creative-industry. He is an active member of Indonesian film scholars association (KAFEIN). He published a monograph in Indonesian, titled “Anak-anak dalam Layar Garin Nugroho: Dari Eksperimentasi Visual hingga Kritik terhadap Orde Baru” (Children in Garin Nugroho’s Films: A Visual Experiment and Critiques against Indonesia’s New Order Regime), was published by the East Java Art Council in 2016.
